ALEXIA
MIHALACHE

Shortly after starting high school, I've made up my mind to become a journalist. However, the decision has been hiding inside my head since I went on stage playing a news anchor in a short kindergarten play. I was 6 years old. Now, at 23, I'm close to completing a master's degree in journalism and I'm searching for opportunities to put my knowledge and skills into practice.

I'm currently doing my degree at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, where I've also studied for a Bachelor's degree in Media Studies. I'm trained in print, radio and television reporting after completing the first year in the MA and I'm now writing my thesis on Romanian independent journalism and its contestation by political actors in the country.

During my studies, I've explored various journalistic genres, investigative journalism being the one that I was drawn to the most, which motivates me to always look for opportunities to improve my research and OSINT skills. I've also discovered that my enthusiasm and curiosity lie in topics regarding political developments in Eastern Europe, with a focus on Romania's domestic politics and its relationships with the European Union, migration of non-EU citizens to member states and international justice.
