Education

MA Journalism

2025-Present

University of Groningen, The Netherlands

The practical focus of this programme allowed me to develop skills in various genres and formats of journalism. I learnt to write for print, radio and television and I've reported on local events as well as international issues. I learnt to look for the sources and to ask the questions that would bring the most important information for my stories. During "newsroom" weeks, I got a taste of the fast-paced environment journalists work in and I got the chance to also be in the editor's shoes. I gained editing skills in Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro and I've become familiar with OSINT for investigative journalism. I'm now working on my thesis about independent journalism in Romania and its contestation by politicians in the country.

BA Media Studies

2022-2025

University of Groningen, The Netherlands

During my bachelor's degree, I delved deep into theories of media and communication and I learnt to conduct research on topics like news framing, representation of minority groups in mass media and the functions of the press in democracy. Similar to my MA, my last academic paper was my thesis: Independent Journalism in Post-communism: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Investigative Coverage During Romania's 2024 Presidential Elections.

Exchange Semester

2024-2025

University of Leeds, United Kingdom

Because I'm always looking to discover new cultures and places, I chose to study in England for a semester during my BA. Throughout the four months I spent at the University of Leeds, I challenged myself to learn more about international politics and the news that covers it. I also attended weekly sessions at the Leeds Model United Nations society, which helped me polish my public speaking and debating skills.

Volunteering & Extracurriculars

CONTEXT.ro

Mar 2026 - Present

Research & Amplification

I'm currently volunteering online for the Romanian investigative outlet Context. My tasks include conducting research to identify information relevant to the organisation's journalistic activity, finding social actors and institutions that could amplify and promote articles published by Context and translating articles in English for the dissemination of the work beyond Romania.

University of Groningen

Oct 2025 - Sep 2026

Student Ambassador

As an ambassador for the International Team, I had the chance to meet prospective students from all over the world, to whom I offered tours of the university campus. I also helped them with information about admissions, student life and other useful information through the Unibuddy platform. Additionally, I represented the team at Welcoming Ceremonies and other General Information Fairs, such as Open Days.

UNHCR UK

Feb 2025 - May 2025

Media monitoring & News roundup

My role as a UN Online volunteer consisted of conducting daily media monitoring of major UK news outlets to identify all articles that cover topics about asylum seekers, migration, refugees, policies, aid and development. I also organised my research into a newsletter that was distributed daily to the external team. It was the perfect opportunity to familiarise myself with UK media, breaking news on immigration and domestic policies of asylum and migration, subjects that I've been passionate about in both my research and journalistic work.

MESAzine

Oct 2023 - Sep 2024

Editorial Assistant

As an editorial assistant for the first issue of the Media Studies Association magazine, MESAzine, I focused on cultural topics related to the field of media in order to cater to the interests of students in this programme. I also had the chance to contribute to the identity and visual aspects of the magazine and I understood the importance of cooperation during the creation of an entirely new project.

Romanian Student Association Groningen

Sep 2023 - Aug 2024

Co-Founder and Creative Director

Moving to a different country for my Bachelor's degree made me appreciate my culture and my home country even more. This motivated me to found, together with five friends, the Romanian Student Association in Groningen, with the hope of creating a space for Romanian students where they could have a sense of belonging. I was also the Creative Director, which meant that I was in charge of the association's presence on social media and I helped my team promote a loving community that feels like home for Romanian students in the city.

Informația Harghitei

Sep 2021 - Oct 2021

Proofreader

At the beginning of my last year of high school I wanted to see how a newsroom functions and I had the opportunity to volunteer at the local newspaper in my home town in Romania. I went in the newsroom three times a week after classes and helped the team with the proofreading of the articles that were then printed out and uploaded online for the public. Besides getting a taste of what journalism entails, I developed meticulous attention to detail by correcting grammar, punctuation and vocabulary mistakes.

More about me...

Ever since I can remember, I loved asking questions and learning more about the world, be it through reading books, news or by listening to people around me. This is why I want to become a professional journalist: to continue discovering new things and to share what I know with others.

What I bring to the table is determination, attention to details, creativity and optimism. I'm a team player and I value direct communication and honesty. I work well under pressure and I appreciate support from my colleagues, which I also offer back.

In addition to my academic and professional interests, I strive to have an active live both socially and physically. I'm always seeking to surround myself with people, to engage in new projects and try out sports.

I balance this liveliness out with one of my favourite activities, photography. Whenever I want to relax my mind, I go outside for a walk with my camera and just point my lens at things and moments around me that I believe tell a story and deserve to be frozen in time. If I feel creative afterwards, I try to bring the best out of my photographs by playing around with my editing skills.
